"According to a study co-led by Swiss Tourism and the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, Switzerland is about to welcome 2 million overnight stays of Chinese visitors per year by 2022; more and more individual travelers with high purchasing power and less tour groups.
How Switzerland is preparing itself to welcome these independent Chinese travelers? How to take advantage of these new customers as a retailer, touristic operator or hotel and restaurant manager?
One single solution: penetrate the Chinese digital ecosystem, as most of “western” digital platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp) cannot be used in China.

Gesundheit und Krankheit umfassen in allen Gesellschaften bis heute sowohl physische wie psychi-sche Aspekte. Mit den naturwissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen der westlichen Welt ist die physische Seite von Krankheit jedoch in den Mittelpunkt gerückt. Phänomene, die nicht wissenschaftlich erklärt werden können, sind suspekt und werden ausgeblendet. Auf der anderen Seite zeigen ursprüngliche, animistische Erklärungen zu Krankheiten ebenfalls Schwächen, wie wir bei der Behandlung von Ebola in Afrika sehen. Das Seminar des Konfuzius Instituts an der Universität Basel versucht, die verschiedenen Sichten aufzuzeigen und die Stärken und Schwächen der jeweiligen Auffassungen etwas zu klären."

"Heritage has today become a globalized category involving multiple forms, categories and national phenomena. If current global forms predominately have European origins, they have within the last few decades become appropriated on a massive scale, yet also rearticulated and reshaped by Asian countries (Winter and Daly, 2012). If Asia just a couple of decades was considered underrepresented on the global scene, heritage-making in Asia today, in some regards at least, outpacing other regions, yet also leading to new ways of thinking and practicing heritage.
This workshop explores the nature of heritage, its universalities and particularities in distinct Asian contexts. Are there specific Asian processes of heritage-making and how do they manifest themselves in different heritage arenas? What characterizes the forms, meanings and approaches in terms of similarities and differences across heritage in both tangible and intangible forms? How are these articulated and what are the specific forms of silences, negotiations and contestations this leads to? We aim to explore particular national processes and heritage practices with a particular focus on how heritage is considered, forgotten, contested or silenced at local, regional and national levels."
