International
art media say that, "Mummenschanz Next"
is one theatrical magic trick after another. It is
a show of comic surprises and constant changes that
makes the audience squeal with delight. The show is
absolutely incredible and beautifully funny.
"Mummenschanz Next" is the latest evolution
of the wordless theatrical form that was invented
by the original Mummenschanz trio in 1972. Since that
time, Mummenschanz has continued to devise from everyday
materials the expressive shapes and fantastical creations
that have become its signature. With a consistent
sense of fun and imagination, Mummenschanz has transcended
the barriers of language and nationality to achieve
an art form that remains universal in its appeal.
"Mummenschanz
Next" is about figures that can be broken down
and built up again, and it combines both organic and
geometric elements. John Murphy and Raffaella Mattioli
have joined founders Bernie Schürch and Floriana
Frassetto for this production, giving Mummenschanz
a company of four performers for the first time.
The
name Mummenschanz (pronounced moom-un-schonz) comes
from a term used to describe medieval Swiss soldiers
who wore masks to hide their reactions. "It's
a theater of masks and body sculptures that provoke
feelings and stimulate imagination," said founding
members Floriana and Bernie. UN-Secretary-General
Kofi Annan who recently attended a Mummenschanz performance
said: "I am moved by the universality of your
language, that reaches everyone's heart."
THANK
YOU!
